Open Lecture Series in Learning and Teaching at Greenwich University
The series is open to all interested in learning and teaching and we particularly welcome those who are taking the postgraduate certificates in higher education. There is no charge for attendance at these events.
The first lecture will be delivered by Professor Colin Beard from Sheffield Hallam University on 12 October 2011. In his session Colin will focus on the relationship of mind, body and environment in learning and he will consider how this complex relationship affects learning. Practical examples will include new learning and working environments, and movement in learning (of people, technology and information). More controversially, Colin will consider how we ignore our own human sensory intelligence, and how the communication methods of text and speech, symbolic of what it is to be human, are now presenting new challenges to the development of the human species.
This will be followed by Malcolm Ryan from University of Greenwich on 9 November 2011. Malcolm will reflect on how technology has enhanced learning and teaching over his 40 years of service to education and training. He will consider the relationship between a range of technologies, contexts and users.
