{"id":88,"date":"2011-03-24T05:17:12","date_gmt":"2011-03-24T05:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/?p=88"},"modified":"2011-03-24T05:17:12","modified_gmt":"2011-03-24T05:17:12","slug":"report-on-jisc-lt-experts-group-meeting-23rd-march-2011-jiscexperts11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/2011\/03\/24\/report-on-jisc-lt-experts-group-meeting-23rd-march-2011-jiscexperts11\/","title":{"rendered":"Report on JISC L&amp;T experts group meeting 23rd March 2011 (#jiscexperts11)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Report on L&amp;T experts group meeting 23rd March 2011 (#jiscexperts11)<\/p>\n<p>Attended by Rob Howe<\/p>\n<p>The main aims of the day were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To update the group on the findings from the Supporting Learners in a Digital Age (SLiDA) study<\/li>\n<li>To update and consult with the Experts on emerging findings from the Lifelong Learning and Workforce development programme<\/li>\n<li>To update and consult with the Experts on emerging findings from the e-Portfolio Implementations Study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rhona Sharpe presented on the <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.brookes.ac.uk\/display\/slida\">SLiDA project and interim findings<\/a>. A number of breakout sessions allowed members to explore some key themes in more depth. I attended the session on &#8216;strategic emphasis on course design for blended learning.&#8217; The group noted the importance of the correct departmental setup and good promotion of this. Robust technology should be available and staff need to be competent in its use &#8212; staff digital competence may need to be addressed (noted that there may be subject differences in enthusiasm and adoption). The use of the CAIeRO process at Northampton does help address a number of the previously mentioned issues. Case studies were noted as valuable but often difficult to obtain. Example from Winchester at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wblb.wordpress.com\/\">wblb.wordpress.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The group indicated that induction should not be an option and it does impact on retention.<\/p>\n<p>Rhona concluded by indicating that the next digital literacy workshops are now advertised.<\/p>\n<p>The next main block covered how technology is supporting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev.aspx\">lifelong learning and workforce development.<\/a> Two points noted in the introduction were the need for flexible institutional policies and a policy on information sharing. Xcri was mentioned several times as a standard for sharing course information between sites. Other potential sites useful to follow up were the maturity toolkit and the Pineapple project. (Apel processes). The projects represented were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev\/well.aspx\">Workforce engagement in lifelong learning -maturity toolkit<\/a><sup>3<\/sup> , Peter Chatterton, University of Bradford<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev\/pineapple.aspx\">Partnership investigations into accredited prior\/previous learning<\/a><sup>4<\/sup>, Neil Witt, University of Plymouth<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev\/musket.aspx\">Middlesex University skills &amp; education planning tool<\/a><sup>5<\/sup> , George Dafoulas, Middlesex University\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev\/pedagogyforsmes.aspx\">e-Portfolio based pedagogy for SMEs<\/a><sup>6<\/sup>, Alison Felce, University of Wolverhampton<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev\/wcwd.aspx\">Technology enhanced learning to support a welsh centre for workforce development and Building Capacity project<\/a><sup>7<\/sup> , Loretta Newman-Ford, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/programmes\/elearning\/workforcedev\/cclip.aspx\">Culture Campus Liverpool Portal<\/a><sup>8<\/sup>, Trish Lunt, University of Liverpool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A detailed discussion on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/epistudy\/\">e-portfolio implementation study<\/a> followed. This raised a number of questions which may be of use for Northampton&#8217;s own strategy within this area.<\/p>\n<p>The final 3 sessions covered :<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/circuitwarz.com\/\">Circuit Warz<\/a> &#8211; virtual worlds within Moodle<\/p>\n<p>Aston&#8217;s development of a CMS similar to BITE<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conceptlinkage.org\/\">Concept linkage through C-link.<\/a> This is a search and concept map builder which searches for links between two concepts and builds a map of the relationship.
