Whilst the problem was investigated, we took the decision to reduce<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/2011\/10\/10\/announcement-notifications-in-nile\/\"> the notification functionality.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have been working with the supplier to investigate the problem in more detail and believe the problem is now solved and we have reactivated the full notification system.<\/p>\n<p>Staff will now notice that when they post important announcements, they will see the ability to push these out to student&#8217;s email accounts again regardless of individual notification settings:<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/10\/override-notification-settings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-747\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/10\/override-notification-settings.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of override notification settings\" width=\"683\" height=\"48\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/10\/override-notification-settings.jpg 683w, https:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/10\/override-notification-settings-300x21.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tutors can use the announcements feature in modules on NILE to post important messages about a course or module (e.g. room changes,\u00a0 information on assignments etc.). Students will be able to see these\u00a0announcements\u00a0when logging into NILE. It is also possible to receive these via email, by making changes to personal notification settings.<\/p>\n<p>Should staff or students wish to subscribe to these emails, they may need to modify their notification settings (by default most email notifications are set to &#8216;off&#8217; to prevent unwanted emails being sent out to users).\u00a0 If you are not sure how to do this, please <a title=\"Amending Announcement Settings\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/prwzT2\" target=\"_blank\">watch the video<\/a> or follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<p>To edit your preferences, go to the &#8216;My Places&#8217; link at the top of any screen in NILE, and click on \u2018Edit Notification Settings\u2019. From here you have a few options:<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/10\/MyPlaces.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-773\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.northampton.ac.uk\/learntech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/10\/MyPlaces.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot indicating the location of the My Places link\" width=\"230\" height=\"108\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Edit General Settings\u2019 controls whether you receive individual emails, or a daily digest. There is also a shortcut to switch due date reminders on and off (please note these reminders depend on the tutor specifying a due date when an item is added in NILE)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Individual Module\/Organisation Settings\u2019 lets you choose what type of notifications you will receive for each module (e.g. new announcements, new content added, new message on blogs or discussion forums etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Bulk Module Settings\u2019 allows you to set your preferences for all of your modules at once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more details on the notification features in NILE, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/nile.northampton.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-66192_1\">Notifications Dashboard guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you notice large numbers of old announcements being sent to your email account then please email <a href=\"LTSupport@northampton.ac.uk\">LTSupport@northampton.ac.uk<\/a> with your username and details of the announcements which are being received.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the start of the 2011 academic year, the Learning Technology team noticed an issue with staff and students receiving high numbers of old announcements from NILE.
